Chandory is a late medieval kingdom shaped by old dynasties, uneasy peace, inherited violence, stubborn loyalty, and the constant tension between power and mercy. Though the kingdom survived the reign of King Alric, many of the wounds left behind by his rule continue to echo through the crown, the court, and the families bound to them.

The Crown

Chandory is ruled co-regnantly by King Dairen and Queen Emily. Their reign marked a major cultural and political shift away from fear-based rule and toward a monarchy built more openly on loyalty, stability, and mutual responsibility between crown and kingdom.

The royal banner, bearing paired dragon and griffin imagery, became a symbol of that change.

The Fevers

The fevers are among the deadliest recurring illnesses in Chandory’s history. The sickness progresses in stages, beginning with severe fever and delirium before advancing into pulmonary illness and, in some cases, hallucinations during the final fever phase.

Entire noble lines and villages have been permanently shaped by outbreaks.

Hythebourne

Originally King Alric’s hunting lodge, Hythebourne later became the seat of Morgann Blackthorne’s duchy. Under Morgann’s rule, the territory became known for unusually practical governance, aggressive winter preparation, hunting allowances for villagers, and heavy protective warding tied to older traditions.

Wards and Old Practices

Though the Church publicly discourages many older traditions, warding practices still survive quietly throughout Chandory. Running water, iron, salt, silver, prayer, herbs, and protective carvings all play roles in regional defensive customs.

Some families dismiss such things as superstition.

Others survive because they do not.

Blackthorne Manor

Located west of the capital near the great forests, Blackthorne Manor is known for military competence, practical leadership, stubborn independence, and unusually close relationships between its ruling family and the surrounding villages.

During several major crises within Chandory, the manor became one of the safest places in the kingdom.
